Neck Pain & Headache Care in Raleigh, NC

What is neck pain and headache care?

Many people treat their neck pain and their headaches as two separate problems. In Dr. Hoehle’s experience, they are often connected: misalignments in the neck can put pressure on nerves, and that pressure is what produces the headaches. Care that addresses the neck may therefore help both, which is why this practice evaluates them together rather than separately.

Common symptoms

Neck stiffness or pain, especially with turning the head; headaches that start at the base of the skull or wrap forward; tension that builds through the workday; pain after a car accident or whiplash; and pain, tingling, or aching that travels into the shoulder or arm.

How Dr. Hoehle evaluates it

A consultation and physical exam with orthopedic and neurological testing, range of motion assessment, and X-rays taken on site. The evaluation looks at how the neck is moving and aligned and whether that is contributing to the headaches, so treatment targets the source rather than just the symptom.

Treatment approaches we may consider

Chiropractic adjustments, targeted stretches, myofascial release, decompression when disc involvement is found, and corrective exercise you continue at home.

Nervous about a neck adjustment? Two reassurances. The popping sound is gas exchange in the joint capsule as the joint moves, not bones cracking. And for patients who simply do not want the pop, Dr. Hoehle uses drop-table and instrument adjusting, which adjust the neck without it.

Who is (and who is not) a good candidate

Patients whose neck pain and headaches trace to how the neck is moving and aligned are the ones this care is built for. A suspected fracture goes to the emergency room, and any case needing medical evaluation first is referred out.

What to expect at your first visit

Consultation, exam with range-of-motion and orthopedic/neurological testing, any necessary X-rays, and treatment, with a clear explanation of what Dr. Hoehle found and how your neck and headaches may be related in your specific case.

Visit length and course of care

Individualized after the exam and X-rays; the office does not promise treatment counts. Progress is monitored and the plan adjusts to your response.

Insurance and payment

Benefits verified before care begins; participation varies by plan. Auto accident, personal injury, and workers’ compensation cases accepted, including whiplash care after a crash. Cards, cash, check, CareCredit, HSA/FSA, and in-house payment plans; self-pay pricing on request.

When to seek urgent medical care

Seek emergency care for a headache that is sudden and the worst of your life, a headache with fever and stiff neck, neck pain after significant trauma that could involve a fracture, or headache with confusion, vision loss, weakness, or trouble speaking.

Quick questions

In Dr. Hoehle’s evaluation and experience, misalignments in the neck can put pressure on nerves, and that pressure can produce headaches. Your exam and X-rays show whether that connection is present in your case.

By treating the neck: adjustments (including no-pop drop-table and instrument options), stretches, myofascial release, decompression when needed, and home exercise to hold the change.

It varies by patient and cause. Recommendations come after your exam and X-rays, and the plan adjusts to how you respond.
